Man wanted on multiple fraud and identity theft charges
21st November 2008
The U.S. Secret Service teamed up with East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies and Kenner police to nab a wanted Baton Rouge man.
Deputies say Rodney Roussell applied for loans in Baton Rouge using people's stolen identities. In Kenner, he's accused of racking up about $90,000 worth of charges in counterfeit checks. "He has a history of this. We're not the only agency that was looking for him," says Casey Rayborn Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies, along with police in Kenner say they've been searching non-stop for months for the 26-year-old. "We've been following him a little bit on the internet because he's very high profile. He likes to advertise himself," says Detective David Stromeyer with the Kenner Police Department. Police say Roussell goes by several different names, including the self-proclaimed entertainer known as "M.C. Shakie."
Despite the nickname, it appears he couldn't shake deputies early Wednesday morning when they picked him up at Candyz nightclub on Gardere Lane. After going through Roussell's car, they say they found an ID with his picture and someone else's name. Investigators say that same name was also printed on six different credit cards that were also found in the car.
"Everything he does is in someone else's. When we first started the investigation, his cell phone, in someone else's name. The apartment he rented was in somebody else's name. He had a car he purchased using an old lady's social security number out of Texas," Detective Stromeyer says. "From 2004, this man has a history of doing this sort of thing. So, it's absolutely something that we won't tolerate," Hicks says.
Investigators say Roussell is also known to cross-dress, but he was dressed as a man when he was picked up from the nightclub Wednesday morning. Officers say Roussell is also wanted in Texas on similar fraud charges.
